Sunday Long Run Report

My AT feels like it is bruised. I had a step back week scheduled this week, so I'm going to step back by just not running at all for a few days and see if I can get it feeling better. I'm thinking about getting some 1/4" heel raises for my shoes and seeing if that does anything. I also changed my training plan to a slightly easier (or so it would seem) one. Hopefully that will relieve some of the overuse issues I seem to be having. I'm a little bummed that I keep hurting, but I am not going to let it keep me from trying.

On a lighter note, I picked up a free (yes, free) Huffy Flatbed freestyle bike from the neighbors junk heap he had out in the front yard. It is now my little project, to see if I can restore it, and make it something presentable. I'm not sure what I should call it...Jefferson County Choppers sounds catchy. I stripped the whole thing down to the frame and fork. I just have to take the head set and stem off of it. It had one-piece cranks on it, and I've never taken those apart before, although I had an idea that it wouldn't be too difficult, and it wasn't, so I learned a little bit there. I am thinking about taking the frame, fork, handle bars, seat post, and rims to a local business that does powder coating and having them strip it down and apply a black powder coat. Have to call and see how much $ that would be. I think I'll post some pics later on just to chronicle the life of this thing. It will probably take me years to get anywhere with it, but oh well, it is something to do. And I have a good helper. Roo was peeling stickers for about 30 seconds with me, until she got bored and decided to ride her tricycle around the garage.

Root root root for the home team

Nothing terribly exciting to report this week. I missed my run on Wednesday because my blisters hurt, and I wanted to give them a break (good one, huh?). Also, it was raining pretty heavy (not bad, not bad). So I am trying to catch up a little at the end of the week here, and I think I'll still get my miles for the week in, and not overdo it.

I am not the kind of person that puts a lot of value on what other people think of me, although I do try to stay under the radar and not draw attention. Tonight I drove down to the local ballfield and parked the truck and started my run. I was wearing black wind pants and a blaze orange under armour tee shirt. Not a big deal and not terribly conspicuous. Or so I thought. While I was out on my run, apparently the local midget football (is it still ok to call it that?) team showed up for practice. Their uniforms are black pants and orange shirts. I'm sure nobody noticed me (yeah, right) covered in sweat and ducking into the truck as quickly as I could to get out of there. I felt like a big dorky male cheerleader (not that there's anything wrong with that), or maybe an overzealous fan. Now I know how women feel when they show up to a party and see someone else wearing the same dress. Go Leopards!

Owwwwww!

Roo was so excited to show me her new iPod when I got home today. It came preloaded with a bunch of 50-Cent and 80's hair bands. Go figure.

Oh yeah, I got a blister a mile and a half into my 6 mile run today. Sheesh.

Snakes on the run...

I absolutely hate snakes. I don't care if they are just a couple inches long or big enough to eat a small donkey, they are all spawns of Satan. I must have been about 4-6 miles in today when I nearly stepped on one sunning itself along the Walkway. I had my head down and didn't see it till I was right on top of it, and when I did my heart leapt into my throat, but luckily I had already jumped up in the air so high, it didn't cause any damage. Scared the snake just as bad as it scared me. I nearly had to take a potty break in the woods after that, and I might of if I didn't think there were probably 50 more in there waiting for me (along with a few ninjas).

I have to post my splits from today, because, although I wanted to start out slower today, I was feeling so good, I couldn't help myself but run, and I knew I would pay for it by the end. And I did.

1 - 12:27.8
2 - 12:10.0 (I never run the 2nd mile faster than the first)
3 - 11:42.3 (Slow down dummy)
4 - 12:57.8
5 - 12:32.0
6 - 12:27.9
7 - 13:52.2 (That's where I should have probably been all day, maybe a little quicker)
8 - 12:39.8
9 - 13:04.0
10 - 13:34.3
11 - 13:51.7 (Fading)
12 - 18:32.2 (Nice walk, skirt getting in the way?)

Playlist:

I won't list the songs but I started out with Sugarcult, and Finished up with Blue Oyster Cult, YEAH Baby! BOC!!! I love "Counting Stars" by Sugarcult so much it made the song of the day (I need a better name for that...any suggestions?). I was going to put COBRA STARSHIP - Snakes on a Plane up there, but it features my boy Sam Jackson dropping the "MF" bomb at the beginning, and I was worried my MIL might read this some day and that wouldn't go over good with her (or my lovely wife for that matter). Ah who am I kidding the wife would probably giggle.

Spazzed out...

I'm 2 miles into my 4 mile run today, and I'm just about ready to turn around and head home, there is a vehicle on the road coming toward me. I have no idea what happened next but something hits me right in the face, that little crease right beside my left nostril, above my lip. I don't know if it was a bee, a walnut falling out of a tree or some ninja up in the woods throwing one of them ninja stars at me (it felt like the latter). Suddenly I turn into a 3 year old girl with tourettes. It stopped me dead in my tracks. I can only imagine what the people in the oncoming vehicle were thinking, and I'm not sure why they didn't stop. Well, yes I am, they were probably scared to death of the mental patient on the side of the road screaming and dancing around swinging at his face like he was on fire. The whole side of my face went numb and my eye started throbbing. There wasn't really anything I could do, so I turned around and kept running, just sure that blood would start pouring any second. I made it back to the truck without passing out, and looked in the mirror and I can't even find a mark. Them ninjas are amazing.

Here are my splits for the run:

1 - 11:04.5
2 - 11:02.2
3 - 11:54.0 (Hey I was hurting)
4 - 10:27.9 (Convinced I was going to need medical attention)

Around the track came No. 9

I ran the train tracks today and it sucked. I should have known it would suck, but I wanted to explore them just to see if it could be done. It would be wonderful to run along the tracks all day and only ever have to deal with an occasional traffic intersection. I think I`ll stick to the roads for now though.

Sunday

Pushed the bar to 10 Miles today. It was difficult, but I have learned to take my long runs a little bit easier and I get through them just fine. I'm kind of glad I didn't run the Erie Half Marathon today, as 10 was pushing the limits.

Listened to Linkin Park again because I had so much fun with them last run. It was ok, but after a while they make the ears ring a little. Too many tracks to list (2 hour 13 minute run).

Today is the official start of my Marathon Training Program. Whoop de dooo. I am going to try and really focus on hitting my weekly mileage. I don't want this to hurt, and I want it to be an enjoyable experience that I might want to undertake again some day.

I love my new shoes....

Ludacris Park

Playlist:

[deleted] (doesn't matter anyway, nothing good for me there)

Breaking The Habit (Live) - Linkin Park - Underground V4.0
The crowd noise and crowd participation on this track did more for me than the actual song.
A Place For My Head - Linkin Park - Underground V3.0
Great track for some speed. This was the last one I listened to on the home stretch, and it had me goin.

remodeling...

I am making a few changes to the bLog. You may have already noticed the new Stat thingys on the left side. Also the countdown timer....tick, tick, ticking away. I am also not going to post workout stats in posts any longer as the Buckeye Outdoors tracker does a decent job of that.
